At SKUDONET, we are committed to continuously improving our Enterprise Edition, our enterprise load balancer designed to deliver top-tier security, usability, and performance. With the release of SKUDONET EE 10.0.7, we introduce two major updates:

  • Protection against X-Forwarded-For Spoofing attacks to strengthen security.
  • A redesigned user interface (UI) for an improved and more intuitive experience.

Let’s explore what’s new in this latest version.

Blocking X-Forwarded-For Spoofing Attacks

Cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, and attackers frequently attempt to manipulate headers like X-Forwarded-For (XFF) to disguise their true IP address. This technique, known as X-Forwarded-For Spoofing, can be exploited to bypass security controls or obfuscate the origin of malicious traffic.

With SKUDONET EE 10.0.7, we have implemented a new directive that removes any existing X-Forwarded-For header from incoming requests. This ensures that only the original IP information collected at the TCP layer is passed to backend servers, preventing attackers from spoofing their identity and enhancing network security.

Additionally, we’ve introduced customizable WAF error responses. Now, system administrators can display personalized messages when WAF blocks a request, providing useful insights into why the transaction was denied and which rules were triggered, making security monitoring more efficient.

The All-New SKUDONET Web Interface

SKUDONET EE 10.0.7 brings a major UI update, focusing on making the system easier and more intuitive to use.
The new compact visual style improves navigation, and accessibility, with a modernized lateral menu, redesigned tables, and an optimized form layout. These changes streamline system configuration and management.
Key improvements in the new Web GUI include:

  • Better Performance: Optimized layout and rendering speed.
  • Improved Responsiveness: A seamless experience across browsers like Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.
  • More Organized Information: Enhanced data structure for easier access and usability.

Other Improvements & Fixes in SKUDONET EE 10.0.7

In addition to these major updates, this version includes several improvements for better log management, system stability, and error handling:

  • Enhanced WAF Logging: Now, all WAF transactions display informational, warning, and blocking messages within the Web GUI, improving visibility for administrators.
  • RBAC Group Information for Farms: A new column has been added to each Farm Table in the Web GUI, allowing users to see the owner and group associated with each Farm.
  • Improved HTML Error Messages: New Farms now include enhanced HTML error messages with a better description of the error.
  • Optimized Syslog Management: The systemd-journal service has been completely disabled in Debian 12-based environments, as it was affecting logging performance. SKUDONET now relies fully on SYSLOG for better stability and efficiency.
  • Cluster Synchronization Enhancements: Improvements to the session synchronization daemon resolve previous backtrace issues with ssyncd service, ensuring more reliable synchronization between nodes.
  • IPv6 Virtual Interface Fix: Previously, IPv6 NICs appeared as DOWN in the Web GUI, even when they were active in the system. This issue has been corrected.
  • Offline Upgrade Method Fix: A bug in offline updates that automatically disabled the CD-ROM mount point after checkupgrade execution has been resolved.
