At SKUDONET, we’re proud to announce the release of SKUDONET 7.2.0 Community Edition, the first Free Open Source Load Balancer with an integrated Web Application Firewall (WAF).
Over the past few months, we’ve been working hard to introduce new features and improvements to our free load balancer. Without a doubt, the most significant update in this release is the integration of a Web Application Firewall (WAF), powered by ModSecurity v3—something that is not usually seen in the free versions of competitors.
With this release, SKUDONET not only leads the market in free load balancers but also raises the bar for security. Now, users of SKUDONET Community Edition can protect their web applications from common threats like SQL injections and DDoS attacks, with no additional configuration required.
This new version also comes packed with additional features and optimizations designed to take your applications to new heights of performance and reliability. Here are some of the key highlights of SKUDONET 7.2.0.

- [ipds] WAF Module: SKUDONET Community Edition 7.2.0 now includes a fully integrated Web Application Firewall (WAF) based on ModSecurity v3, making SKUDONET the first Free Open Source Load Balancer to offer this feature out of the box. With the built-in WAF, users can safeguard their web applications from threats like SQL injections and DDoS attacks, without needing any additional setup.
- [ipds] Geolocation Support: ModSecurity’s security rules can now be enhanced with geolocation support, allowing administrators to block or permit traffic based on the client’s geographic location.
- [ipds] Lua 5.2 Support: We’ve added support for Lua 5.2, giving users more flexibility to extend ModSecurity’s rules and create custom security configurations with greater control.
- [ipds] Syntax Highlighting for SecLang and Lua: ModSecurity rules and Lua scripts now come with syntax highlighting in the rule editor, making development and debugging easier. Additionally, SKUDONET v7.2.0 includes the first semantic analyzers for Seclang and Lua.
